Program note
Adagio y Danza is a piece written for brass trio and commissioned by the Lantana Brass Trio, which is formed by faculty members from the University of North Texas.
The piece starts with a slow movement that explores the lyrical qualities of the ensemble. A contrasting movement follows the Adagio, which is a dance. The dance (Danza) explores rhythmic patterns inspired by Cuban music. The music of this movement is faster, dance-like, and rhythmically challenging yet enjoyable.
