PROGRAM NOTE
Flores y semillas is a composition for SSAA and piano. The author of the text, Aleida Rodríguez, equates us with flowers and seeds, which are offered as symbols of life and resistance. My music seeks to portray the delicacy and strength of “flowers that persist.” It seeks to give the image of “spreading seeds” that multiply to bring forth life; and is flavored by Cuban rhythms, which are prompted by the line “flowers that give rise to fruit.”
